"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, join beneath High Pine for a Clan Meeting."
The cats gathered, and she continued,
"Lingerkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Lingerpaw. Your mentor will be Freshsnow. I hope Freshsnow will pass down all she knows on to you."
She turned her attention to Freshsnow, who looked shocked.
"Freshsnow," She began, "You are ready to take on an apprentice. You have shown yourself to be brave and caring. You will be the mentor of Lingerpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to her."
Lingerpaw eyes seemed to brighten as she and Freshsnow touched noses, but it was quickly diminished, and Reedstar knew why.
"This would be the time I'd pronounce Flickerkit as an apprentice... But since she was kidnapped by Bloodpaw, she will not be able to experience this ceremony. Let us have a moment of silence of respect.
The Clan fell quiet. For a moment Reedstar gazed at the nursery and remembered her kit snuggling in the pelts next to Lingerkit, Skykit off in the corner.
She broke the silence quietly.
"Skykit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to be trained. From this day forward, until the day of your warrior ceremony, you will be known as Skypaw. Your mentor will be Splashwave, and hopefully he will pass all knows onto you."
Skykit looked excitedly around the crowd for Splashwave, who was sitting tall and quiet.
"Splashwave, you have had much mentoring experience, and I expect you to pass on your diligence and work ethic to Skypaw."
He nodded formally, and touched noses with Skypaw.
"Skypaw! Lingerpaw!" The Clan cheered, and Reedstar leaped down from High Pine.
